In order to have the Remote User Manager service operate correctly running under a non-administrative account, you
need to make the following configuration changes:
- You must be using verion 3.3.b.20020312 or later. If you have
an earlier version, upgrade before proceeding.
- Install/upgrade normally onto your webserver. When prompted for the service's username, be sure to pick an account that has admin
privs on the alternate database (i.e., administrative privileges on the domain if picking a domain, or on the particular standalone
server if picking a server). You'll also have to be sure this account has the Log on as a service right. More info.
Don't try to configure any helpers or other options at this point.
Just click through until the install is finished.
- Use regedt32 (not regedit) to change this value on the webserver:
- Use regedt32 to change permissions for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Greyware\Remote User Manager
Add the Account Operators group, granting Full Control. Make sure you check the box
to apply the change to all subkeys!
- Use Control Panel to change the startup parameters for the Remote User
Manager service. Have it log on as any user account with
Account Operator privileges.
- Reboot the webserver. (You can just stop and restart the affected
services if you prefer -- RUM and all IIS-related services. It's
usually faster to just reboot.)
