Requirements
Greyware XO requires Win95, Win98, NT 4.0, or Win2000. XO does not work on NT 3.51.
Service pack 3 or later recommended for NT 4.0. TCP/IP must be installed. You
access XO using your regular web browser. MSIE 3.0 or later, or Netscape Navigator
4.0 or later recommended.
Setup and Installation
Greyware XO includes a setup program, setup.exe, which allows you to install/upgrade,
remove or customize XO. Put all the distribution files in either a temporary
directory, or a directory available as a network share. Double-click setup.exe
and follow the screen prompts. You will need to reboot your machine after
installing, upgrading, or removing XO. A complete log of all setup activities
is kept in the %systemroot%\xosetup.log text file.
Please back up your system before installing Greyware XO.
Although XO has been extensively tested and has completed a 3-month
public beta without problems, we cannot guarantee there
will not be system incompatibilities. Because of how XO works on NT, any problem
may render your machine unbootable. Do not deploy on production machines without
performing a full backup first.

Notes
Connection Authorization
To connect to any machine running Greyware XO, you must be an administrator. For an NT
machine, this means
A Domain Admin or the Administrator if the machine is a member of a domain; or
A member of the machine's administrator group if the machine is a stand-alone
workstation or a workgroup member.
For a Win95/Win98 machine, this means
User-level security must be enabled; and,
Your username must appear in the list of remote administrators under Control Panel, Passwords
In addition, XO allows you to specify a range (or ranges) of IP addresses that are
allowed to connect. If no ranges are specified, all machines may connect. If one
or more ranges are specified, only those ranges may connect. If your machine is
not allowed to connect due to IP restrictions, XO will notify you. IP restrictions
are applied before password verification, so even if you are an administrator you
will not be able to connect unless your machine's IP address is allowed.
XO will allow the /INFO page to be viewed without password verification, as long
as the requesting machine's IP address is allowed. This behavior is by design.
Connecting to XO
Greyware XO uses your browser to communicate with you. XO is built around a custom
web server. The default port number is 81 (you may change this with the Setup
program's customization feature). As with any browser operation, you must supply
a valid destination address on the Location/Address line of the browser. Any
name that can be resolved by your system to an IP address will work. For example,
if machine \\FRED has IP address 172.16.10.144, and is known on your local network
as fred.yourcompany.com, you could use http://fred:81, http://172.16.10.144:81/, or
http://fred.yourcompany.com:81/ on the Location/Address line.
Start your browser
On the Location/Address line, type http://targetmachine:portnumber/ and press enter
Substitute the target machine's DNS name, IP number, or Windows name for targetmachine
Substitute the target machine's XO port number for portnumber (the default port is 81)
Supply your username and password when prompted
If you change the port number to 80 (using XO's setup customization), then you will not
have to enter a port number on the Location/Address line, since 80 is the default HTTP
port. However, if a web server, such as Microsoft's IIS or Personal Web Server, is
running on the machine, using port 80 will cause a conflict. You may use port number
you want, as long as it does not conflict with another program. 81, 8080, and 10080 are
common choices. Port 81 is the default for XO.
