Problem
Problem: Domain Time system tray icon changes from the Domain Time logo to a flashing clock.
Details
The Domain Time system tray icon changes from the Domain Time logo to a flashing clock if a problem is detected. This behavior is by design. The flashing clock is designed to alert
you to a problem needing your attention.
Solution
Hover your mouse over the flashing clock to see pop-up text telling
you what the problem is. The pop-up text will either tell you that the service hasn't set its
clock recently enough, or (if you have an evaluation version installed) that your evaluation
period has expired.
-
If the pop-up message says Evaluation period expired, you may either upgrade to
the registered version or remove Domain Time from your system. Licenses for the registered version
are available for purchase from our Secure Online Store.
-
If the pop-up message says Clock not verified - time may be off,
you should examine the log file to determine why. Right-click on the flashing clock and select
Control Panel Applet from the pop-up menu.
Note: The version 3.x and 4.x Thin Client does not have a control
panel applet or a log. You may view its statistics or activity by selecting Client Statistics or
Activity Monitor from the pop-up menu. If you cannot determine the problem with the Thin Client,
you should replace it temporarily with the Full Client and examine the Full Client's log. After
you have resolved the problem, you may switch back to the Thin Client. The Thin Client is designed
for fully-automatic operation in reliable LAN environments where Domain Time II servers can be
located by UDP broadcast.
You can also use the DTProbe
utility from the Thin Client workstation to determine which servers
the client machine can see on the local network. Right-click on the flashing clock and select
Domain Time II Probe from the pop-up menu.
If DTProbe indicates no servers found, you must either install Full
Client and specify the time server to use (recommended), or (advanced users only) adjust the
broadcast addresses used by the Thin Client in the registry.
